Dr.
Paul Garfinkel, Chairman of The
Advisory Board on Health Education,
obtained his medical degree from
the University of Manitoba in 1969
and pursued his psychiatric residency
at the University of Toronto. In
1982, he was appointed Psychiatrist-in-Chief
of the Toronto General Hospital.
In 1990, he became Chair of Psychiatry
at the University of Toronto and
President and Psychiatrist-in-Chief
of the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry.
He was appointed President and
Chief Executive Officer of the
Centre of Addiction and Mental
Health in 1997, a position he
held until December 2009. In 1996,
he was elected to Fellowship in
the Royal Society of Canada. In
2009, he was named an Officer of
the Order of Canada. At various
times, he has served as Visiting
Professor in England, Ireland,
Italy, and the United States.
Dr. Garfinkel is a researcher,
clinician, and administrator. He
is the author and editor of nine
books on eating disorders. As well,
he has contributed numerous articles
to the professional literature
and has lectured widely. Other
contributions include his taking
a leading role in the advocacy
of support for psychiatric science,
fighting the stigma of mental illness
and addiction, and mentoring younger
scientists in psychiatric research. |

Mark
A. Frye, M.D.

Dr.
Frye received his medical degree
from The University of Minnesota
and completed his psychiatric
training at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric
Institute. He completed a subsequent
research fellowship in the Biological
Psychiatry Branch of The National
Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
While at NIMH, his area of research
focused on the neurobiology of
depression and bipolar disorder.
Formerly the Director of the
UCLA Bipolar Research Program
(1998-2006), he is now Director
of the Mayo Mood Clinic and Research
Program. His
clinical interests are bipolar
disorder, depression and alcoholism
with a research focus on genomics,
brain imaging, and the neuroendocrinology
of mood disorders and alcoholism. |

L. Trevor Young, M.D., Ph.D.,
F.R.C.P.(C)

Dr.
Trevor Young obtained his medical
degree from the University of
Manitoba and his Ph.D. from the
University of Toronto. He
completed his psychiatric residency
at the University of Toronto. He
also completed a postdoctoral
fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. In
addition to his academic leadership
at The University of British
Columbia, Dr. Young is internationally
recognized for his research in
bipolar disorders, particularly
in the area of the molecular
basis of the disorder and its
treatment. He is an active
clinician treating patients with
mood disorders, a teacher, and
he continues to mentor junior
faculty.
He is the past Cameron Wilson
Chair in Depression Studies at
University of Toronto and Physician-in-Chief
at the Centre for Addiction and
Mental Health. He was also the
inaugural director of the Clinician
Scientist Training Program in
the Department of Psychiatry
at the University of Toronto. He
is a recipient of the Heinz Lehmann
Award for his Outstanding Contribution
to the field of Neuro-psychopharmacology
from the Canadian college of Neuropsycho-pharmacology (CCNP), and his program
was recognized with the American Psychiatric
Services Gold Achievement Award.
He has been elected as a fellow
in the Canadian Academy of Health
Sciences. |
